One of the skill-related components of fitness is coordination, which refers to the ability to be able to use two or more parts of the body together efficiently and effectively.
Who doesn't want to be more coordinated? Developing coordination requires discipline and having coordination is a confidence builder. It is also something that will transfer to areas outside of the context in which it was developed.
The developement of coordination is one of the fitness components that PTK is uniquely suited to build.
Many of the movements, forms, and drills of PTK will develop coordination, but double sword solo drills combined with footwork are an excellent way to build coordination while warming up your students for class. Double sword with footwork requires moving both sides of the body with coordinated movements and many people have difficulty with this because most people are dominant on one side. For example, something as simple as single fluid slashes combined with broken double footwork (switching) is great. This can be done solo first and then with a partner, which would be just slightly more advanced and develop equal in timing simultaneously. This can also be accomplished with other doble attack combinations such as broken 1s or Broken 6 for example.
You want your students to be coordinated because it will be easier for them to learn and excel when they learn something new.
